Artist Statement
My love of working with fiber has been life-long as I learned to embroider as a child and don’t remember a time when I was not knitting, weaving, sewing, creating baskets or working with fiber in some form. Being an avid outdoors woman and world traveler, my work is inspired by my love for the natural world; primarily trees, birds and animals. Being new to the Olympic Peninsula, I find endless inspiration in our beautiful outdoor world.
Retiring after a career in higher education, I taught fabric collage classes in Wisconsin, Michigan, Florida and Washington creating fantasy fish, birds and sea creatures. My art quilts have been exhibited and have received many awards in Wisconsin and Florida and in national competitions.
I feel driven to create and usually have three or four different projects underway at the same time. My current work focuses on thread-work, creating circular geometric designs and thread painting realistic birds, animals and insects. These works depict my love of nature and I hope the viewer will appreciate and enjoy them.
