Selkie, Redwood Burl
Artist Statement
My inspiration is taken from the natural world -- its endless variation in color, movement and form. As a sculptor and mosaicist, my creations often arise from impressions left by my observations of well-known animals, places and things which I then arrange into new interpretations.
Through sculpture, I am able to explore and express the natural warmth and grain of wood in a unique manner. From whimsical animal caricatures to realistic forms, the inner beauty and instinctive allure of the wood's movement become one.
With the addition of mosaic tiles and art glass to my multidimensional wood forms and sculptures, nature's palette is expanded. As I choose from a rainbow of colors and follow the contours of shape and form, vision finds purpose in the character of light.
